On June 25, 2016 the San Diego Festival Chorus heads to Alaska for a four-concert singing tour. Teresa and I have never been to Alaska, so it will be particularly interesting for us. We have about 30 singers traveling, and including friends and relations, the total group comes to about 55 people. We have been rehearsing every other Sunday afternoon, and will be presenting a “Bon Voyage” concert on Sunday, 12 June in the afternoon. For more information check the chorus website, www.SanDiegoFestivalChorus.org.
We will be sailing on the cruise ship “Coral Princess” from Vancouver up the coast of Canada with our first stop in Ketchikan, Alaska. We will do two concerts at sea, and two more on land. We debark in Whittier and our singing tour continues by bus and rail after that. We fly home from Fairbanks. Aside from basic sightseeing the tour includes three land excursions, and we have added two more. But more about that later.
The interesting part so far has been the negotiations required to make sure we have great venues. Tony Mostardo, the chorus Founder and Director has been negotiating tirelessly with Gateway Tours to make sure we are not singing in the hotel lobby, as once happened on a tour years ago! At this point it looks like things have worked out very well.
More news in a couple of weeks.
